Before using any 3D printer, it is necessary to learn how to safely use the machine.

3D PRINTER SAFETY RULES

  1. 3D printers are tools; users should have basic knowledge of how one works before using one.
  2. 3D printers use materials of different compositions.  Some colors or additives in the filament may release small particulate into the air or be toxic. Use in a well-ventilated area.
  3. Find the eye wash station and fire extinguisher in the MakerSpace Room.  Familiarize yourself with how to use these.
  4. Handle a 3D printer with care to protect the sensitive components that are part of the machine.
  5. Keep hands away from all moving parts when in operation.
  6. Do not touch the filament extruder, as it may be hot.
  7. Do not touch filament that has just come out of the extruder: it WILL be hot.
  8. Tell a staff member if any part of the 3D printer looks damaged.
